Dr. Quang Long Le
International Master
Dr. Long Le is currently working as a research scientist in a Vancouver start-up. He earned the International Master title in 2009 and PhD in Chemistry in 2018. He enjoys the arts of a beautiful chess game, both tactically and strategically, regardless of the result. He aims to get the GM title before retirement. He is our frequent special guest for topic sessions and internal tournaments.

Janek Kaznowski (Coach Kaz)

Coach Kaz began playing chess in 2012 and has competed in tournaments ranging from high school events to BC regional championships. His achievements include winning his high school’s annual tournament in 2014 and 2016, and placing Top 3 in the U18 category at a BC regional tournament.

Passionate about teaching, Coach Kaz focuses on building confidence, strong thinking skills, and a love for chess. He supports students at every stage, whether preparing for tournaments, achieving their first checkmate, or simply having fun in a safe and encouraging environment.

A FIDE-rated chess coach (1600) and Under-18 Inter-School Champion in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Former Champion and Coach at Columbia College, bringing strong competitive experience and proven coaching skills.

Passionate about helping students of all ages build confidence, thinking skills, and a genuine love for chess through fun, supportive, and easy-to-understand lessons. Currently pursuing a career in AI, with aspirations to become a respected International Arbiter and accomplished chess player.

Alex is currently living in Coquitlam and pursuing his education in British Columbia, with strong interests in the humanities and social sciences.

An accomplished competitive player, Alex holds an online rating of 2400+ on both Lichess and Chess.com, a FIDE rating of 1890, and a peak CFC rating of 1935, with multiple strong performances in 2000+ level tournaments.

Beyond competition, Alex truly enjoys teaching children and sharing his knowledge of chess in a way that is encouraging, engaging, and easy to understand. He is passionate about helping students build confidence, critical thinking skills, and a lifelong love for the game.
