Round 1: Sunday April 27 at 2pm G/15+10
Round 2: Sunday April 27 at 3pm G/15+10
Round 3: Sunday April 27 at 4pm G/15+10
Round 4: Sunday April 27 at 5pm G/15+10

Registration Deadline: Before 1pm April 26th 2025 or meeting max capacity at 40.
Sections: Open U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18. Girls U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18.

Pairings: Swiss System

Entry fee:
•    $50. $10 discount for PCC current student with code "PCC10" at checkout
•    No onsite registration

Prizes: Medals for top 3 by sections. This tournament is a qualifier for CYCC 2025. All sections score 50% or more or top 3 players in your age group/section will qualify to play in 2025 CYCC in Surrey BC.

Refund $10 processing fee will apply to all refunds. No refund after 1PM April 25, 2025.

Misc: a CFC membership is required. Players must have CFC ID before the deadline of registration. If you need to create a new CFC ID, please go to chess.ca and follow their instructions. All chess equipment will be provided by the organizer.

THE TOURNAMENT RULES AND POLICES

 

I.    Anti-cheating rules

We will follow anti-cheating rules guidelines by FIDE. You can find more detail in this link: https://www.fide.com/FIDE/handbook/Anti%20Cheating%20Guidelines.pdf

II.    Food and drinks

You are allowed to bring snacks and non-alcoholic drinks to the playing venue, for example: fruits, chocolate, soft drinks, coffee, milk.

III.    CFC membership

You are required to have a valid CFC ID for this tournament. Check the link below to register if you have not got one.

IV.    Refusal of Entry

We reserve the rights to refuse your entry to the tournament.

V.    Byes

-    If you request bye(s), please confirm with us prior to the deadline of registration.

-    Bye requests for the next round received during the tournament may only be accepted before the last game of your section finishes. Therefore, we strongly encourage players to inform us right after your game. We will not accept any bye requests received afterwards.

-    If your bye is allocated by the computer pairings (ie. not your request), you will have 1 point. 

-    If your bye is requested by you for round 1 and 2 you will have 0.5 points per game

-    If your bye is requested by you for round 3 and 4 you will have 0 point.

-    You cannot request byes for more than 2 rounds.

-    Any player who fails to show up in one game without noticing Arbiters or Organizer will be removed from pairings of the remaining rounds. We reserve the rights to re-admit the player if we receive a valid reason for their absence. However, the player will not be able to join the current round.

-    Tournament Director (TD) reserves the right to refuse your bye requests

VI.    15 minutes tolerance

After 15 minutes since the start of any round, absent players will be considered to forfeit that game and get 0 point.


VII.    Tie-break rules

Tie-break 1: Direct encounter (The results of the players in the same point group)

Tie-break 2: Greater number of victories

Tie-break 3: Buchholz: N, N-1, N-2

VIII.    Electronic device rules

-    All electronic devices (for example: phones, tablets, laptops, smart watches…) are not permitted to be used while players are playing except for special needs with TD’s approval. 

-    Electronic devices that can communicate with other people or devices, or operate softwares should be kept in a bag, a case or left on the playing table without obstructing other players. They must be turned off completely. Players are not allowed to carry such device with them if their games are still in progress, even when it is turned off.

-    Spectators are asked to keep their phone in silent mode. 

-    Violators can be asked to leave the room. Serious cases might lead to an anti-cheating investigation.

IX.    Others

-    We follow FIDE rules of chess. If there is any argument between players, or player and arbiter, the TD will make the final decision based on FIDE and CFC guidelines.

-   Our mission is to create a fair and safe environment for chess communities. We have a zero tolerance policy against any forms of verbal and physical abuses towards our staff, facilities staff and tournament players and spectators. You will be not paired for next rounds. Such incidents will also be reported to CFC, BCCF and local police department if needed.

-    For the purposes of anti-rating manipulation, the TDs reserve the rights to decide which section a player is, or is not, eligible to play in. The player can choose to agree with the TDs or withdraw from the tournament with a full refund of registration fee. This policy is in line with US Chess Minimum Ratings to take into consideration of unusually inconsistent performances of any player.
